There are so many ways to enjoy the pool. From lap swimming to water exercise classes and open swim times, everyone can have fun and feel safe at the Y. Grab a towel, put on your goggles, and make a splash!

RECREATIONAL SWIM

Dive into water fun for everyone.

Every day, our pool hosts lap swimmers, students learning to swim, members working out in the water, and families enjoying open swim time together.

Being active in the pool is a great low-impact alternative to land-based exercise. It's a simple way to challenge yourself, energize your whole body, and have fun. Regardless of your age or abilities, water-based activities benefit your overall health and well-being by:

  • Reducing pressure on your joints by up to 90%
  • Increasing resistance in order to build strength, flexibility, and endurance
  • Improving your mood and decreasing anxiety

Just Add Water

Make the most of water's natural resistance and buoyancy by taking a water-based fitness class.

Test the Waters

Grab your suit and get a dynamic cardio workout by swimming laps or exercising in the pool.

CONTACT US

Safe pools have rules. Please follow all posted guidelines and all requests made by the lifeguard.

  • Swimsuits should be clean and family appropriate. Cotton clothing is not allowed in the pool.
  • You must shower before entering the pool and after the use of toilet facilities. (Wisconsin Code)
  • Children who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper covered by a tight topped suit or reusable plastic pants with elasticized legs and waistband. (Wisconsin Code)
  • Please walk and do not engage in rough play.
  • Cameras, cell phones, and other electronic items are not allowed on deck. Photography is strictly prohibited.
  • Children in baby carriers, strollers, etc. must be actively supervised by a parent/caregiver at all times.
  • Street shoes are not permitted in the pool area.

Our Lap Pool at Rite-Hite Family YMCA is 25 yards long, so it takes 36 laps to swim one mile. It goes from 3.5 feet at the shallow end to 12 feet at the deep end. For comparison, our Small Pool is only 3-3.5 feet in depth.

While pool temperature may vary, we aim to keep the Lap Pool between 83-85 degrees and our Small Pool slightly warmer at 86-88 degrees.

If there are multiple swimmers in the same lane, please circle swim in order to share the lanes fairly and considerately.

Our lifeguard(s) will help determine the most appropriate lane for you based on your speed. Please pass down the middle or stop at the end of the lane to let faster swimmers pass safely.

When lap use is high, we ask that you only swim front or side strokes.

For everyone's safety, please adhere to the following:

  • AGES 0-5: Adult must be in the water, within arm's reach of the child at all times.
  • AGES 6-7: Adult must be in the pool area supervising the child at all times.*
  • AGES 8+: Child may be in the pool area unsupervised.*

*Any minor wishing to swim in water deeper than chest level without an adult must pass a swim test each time they visit.

SWIM TEST

  • Jump into the shallow end and duck their head under water.
  • Swim with a strong stroke for half the length of the large pool.
  • Tread water for 30 seconds.
  • Swim back to starting point.

If a child passes the swim test, they are issued a wristband and will be able to swim in water over their head. A parent/guardian must actively supervise children under 8 years old in the pool area, even if the child has a wristband.

Swim tests must be completed every visit. The lifeguard has the authority to withhold or remove access to any area of the pool to maintain safety.

You can enhance your workout with water exercise equipment or a flotation device.

  • Kickboards are for instructional use during classes and are not available for open swim times.
  • Bubble floatation belts are only for children. Noodles are to only be used for floatation.
  • Small, soft balls may be used, however they must stay in the water and cannot interfere with other members' enjoyment of the pool.

The steam room is only for members ages 18+.

  • Please wear a clean, family appropriate swimsuit (no long sleeves or pants).
  • Do not stay in the steam room for more than 10 minutes. Lengthy use may result in nausea, dizziness or fainting.

The whirlpool is only for members ages 18+. People with a history of heart disease, high/low blood pressure, diabetes, seizures, or who are pregnant should not use the whirlpool.

  • Always shower before entering the whirlpool. (Wisconsin Code)
  • Only clean, family appropriate swimsuits should be worn in the whirlpool.
  • Never stay in the whirlpool longer than 10 minutes. Lengthy exposure may result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting.
