Our sports programs keep kids active and introduce healthy practices for life. From boosting confidence to building new skills, we encourage youth to reach their full potential by playing sports in a non-competitive setting.

YOUTH SPORTS

Building skills and confidence is our goal.

There's so much more to a game than the final score. Being involved in sports gives players a chance to learn about teamwork, achievement, and friendship, all while having a great time. We provide a fun introduction to sports fundamentals and help kids stay active in a safe, inclusive environment.

Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes with learning a new skill or building positive relationships that lead to good character, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out. In the process, youth gain:

  • Self-esteem through positive reinforcement from teammates and coaches
  • Healthy habits that build cardiovascular and muscular strength, develop coordination, and enhance endurance
  • Leadership, time management, and decision making skills to use on and off the field

We teach the basics of the sport while helping kids make friends, stay active, and learn new skills.

Combining elements of badminton, tennis, and ping pong, pickleball is easy to learn and fun for all ages.

Y sports programs are built on seven pillars:

Everyone Plays
All players have the opportunity for equal playing time in practices and games, teaching participants valuable social and teamwork skills. When everyone plays, it keeps players physically active, develops communication, boosts their physical skills, and increases their ability in a sport.

Safety First
Safety is a primary concern and we do all we can to prevent injuries from occurring. Along with constant supervision, sports are modified and taught at age-appropriate levels to ensure that no unsafe activities occur.

Character Development
Players work together in a team atmosphere; they learn how to make decisions, communicate, and trust each other. Participants are shown how to play by the rules, respect the game, and maintain an attitude of good sportsmanship. We intentionally follow our core values that encompass fair play, which encourages character development.

Positive Competition
The health and well-being of our players is always more important than winning the game. We keep the pursuit of victory in perspective by helping participants learn to set individual goals and gain a better understanding of winning on and off the playing field.

Family Involvement
Family participation creates an environment conducive to open communication, volunteer engagement, and relationship building. When parents attend practices and games, they have the opportunity to become positive role models for the kids.

Sports for All
Sports are welcoming to all, regardless of race, gender, age, or ability, and participants are taught to respect and appreciate all of their teammates. We encourage everyone who participates -- coaches, players, and families -- to appreciate diversity.

Sports for Fun
We strive to be fun and engaging in order to help participants discover the enjoyment of learning and mastering skills, participating with friends, and competing through sports.
