Prior to using EGYM equipment, members must complete a 45-minute orientation and receive a personalized identification wristband. The EGYM circuit cannot be used without the band.

During your orientation, we'll walk you through a strength assessment to find your optimal resistance settings, show you how to operate the machines, and help you navigate the EGYM system. On following visits, simply tap your wristband on the marked area on the machine. The system will automatically set the proper weight level and range of motion for you.

EGYM equipment is completely free for YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee members. Call 414-224-9622 or ask a staff member at the Briscoe Family YMCA Wellness Center to schedule your orientation. 

EGYM helps you get a complete workout every time. Your personalized identification band allows the machines to recognize you, adjusting for your height, weight, and strength.

Workouts are tailored to individual goals and experience by customizing the equipment settings:

  • Weight: A higher training weight will help you gain muscle, whereas a lower weight is effective for weight loss.
  • Number of reps: Many repetitions with less weight defines the muscle, fewer repetitions with more weight will enlarge muscles.
  • Training duration: Alternating long, less intensive sessions with short, high intensity ones to ensure that you’ll continue to progress.
  • Pace of movement: A fast, explosive movement has a different effect than a long slow movement.

The smart equipment guides you rep-by-rep through circuit and adapts as you progress. The interactive video screen on each machine helps you move at the right pace with the right form.

EGYM activates all major muscle groups by incorporating a variety of equipment:

  • Chest Press
  • Seated Row
  • Ab Crunch
  • Back Extension
  • Leg Curl
  • Leg Extension
  • Lat Pull
  • Shoulder Press
  • Leg Press
  • Triceps Press
  • Bicep Curl

The EGYM circuit features eight tailored programs specific to your goals:

  • Weight Loss (Decrease body weight)
  • Muscle Building (Improve bone density and build muscle)
  • Athletic (Increase power and decrease risk of falls)
  • General Fitness (Enhance functional mobility)
  • Rehab Fit (Low-intensity program designed to assist with injury recovery)
  • Body Toning (Reduce body fat and increase muscle definition)
  • Metabolic Fit (Focus on muscle endurance)
  • Immunity Boost (Simple and progressive re-entry to exercise after time off)

In addition, there are four different training methods within the tailored programs. These provide variation in your workout by changing the speed, weight load, and number of repetitions, all while maintaining the same overall focus. Training methods include:

  • Regular: One weight. Classic controlled repetition tempo/speed.
  • Negative: Two weights. Easier on the first half of the rep, heavier on the second half (or return of rep).
  • Adaptive: Decreases weight mid-set as it senses your muscles getting tired.
  • Explonic: Meant for rapid, explosive movements.

The free EGYM app makes it easy for you to see the positive effects of your training from day one. All of your workouts are logged in the app, so you don't have to worry about counting reps or writing down your settings.

Designed to help you achieve your individual goals, you’ll be able to visualize your targets and future progress with the help of graphs and statistics in the app. You can also analyze and improve your workouts using a wide range of features, including training planning and tracking, estimated biological age, and motivational tools.
